Web Services "Mock Company" Demo Directions

Demo Setup

This demo will actually insert data from your OnDemand demo account.  In order to do this, you need to do a quick setup before running this demo the first time.  Once you do it the first time, you will not need to do it for future runs of this demo.

On the first page of this demo, click the Free Introductory Package link to go to the web lead form page.  Scroll all the way to the bottom of the page.  Enter the email address (e.g. phillips@yourcompany.com) and password of a valid login to the OnDemand Demo Environment (your demo account).  The value defaulted to in the "Server" field is for the OnDemand Demo Environment, so unless you want to point to a different environment, you can leave this value as is.  If you want to point the demo to insert data into a different environment, you'll need to change this value to the new environment.

Once you enter your username and password info, click the "Save Values" button.  This will ensure that the values you entered are pre-set for these fields the next time you run the demo.  You can change the values of these fields at any time and press "Save Values" again to save the new values.  For instance, you may need to do this if you want to run the demo where it inserts data into a different demo account (such as one you have customized specifically for a custmer), or if your password changes.

Running the Demo

This demo shows how the sample web lead capture template the Siebel provides can be easily integrated into a customer's web site, allowing them to capture information entered by their site visitors and create leads in OnDemand for that information.

Start the demo on the home page for NewCo - a fictitious company's website.  Note that there is an offer to receive a "Free Introductory Package".  Click on that link to go to the form where you will enter information required so that NewCo can send you the package.  Note that there are many fields that can be filled in, and you may enter data for any of them, but you only need to enter the data for the fields with an asterisk after the field name - the required fields, which are generally the name and address information.  You should also enter a Company name, since that info is shown in OnDemand as part of the lead name.

Note that the Promotion Code field is already filled in with the promotion code corresponding to the campaign offering the free introductory package.  While you can overwrite this value in this demo, it is more likely that the company would hard-code that value into the form to ensure that leads created through this link are tied to that campaign.  It is exposed only so you can change it during the demo.  In order for this to work correctly, make sure there is a Campaign in your demo company where the Promotion Code entered in the form matches the "Source Code" value of the Campaign.  You should also ensure that the list of valid picklist values for a Lead's "Source" field contains the value "Web Site".  This value is included in OnDemand's default picklist values, but if you have removed it for some reason, this demo will not work properly.

If, as part of your demo, you already showed the "generic" sample web lead capture form, point out how that form has been re-used for NewCo's web site.  It took about 3 lines of changes to the HTML style sheet to change all the colors.  The fonts were also made larger and white, to be consistent with NewCo's web site look.

When done entering data, press the Submit button.  This will insert a new lead with this information into your OnDemand Demo Environment account.  Then, in OnDemand, you can go to the Homepage or Lead Homepage and will see the new lead listed there (you may need to re-click the tab to re-load the page to see the new lead that was created).  Click on the lead in OnDemand to see the details that you entered in the form.  The lead should also be automatically associated with the appropriate Campaign in OnDemand too (because of the Promotion Code entered in the original web site form).
